Project Overview
Location: London
Project Type: Extension and accessibility improvements
Scale: Steel-framed flat roof extension with comprehensive internal and external modifications
Challenge/Brief
The client required an extension solution that would maximise the waterfront location whilst ensuring year-round usability and inclusive access for all guests. The project needed to enhance both indoor and outdoor dining experiences while navigating the requirements of local planning authorities and maintaining the building’s aesthetic appeal.
Solution
MGI developed a collaborative design approach working closely with the client, contractor, and local authority to create a versatile dining environment. The solution focused on creating seamless indoor-outdoor connectivity whilst addressing accessibility challenges through comprehensive level changes from street to waterfront.
Implementation
The project centred on a new steel-framed flat roof extension featuring distinctive copper framing that conceals an external pergola at the entrance. Floor-to-ceiling bi-folding doors and windows were installed to maximise natural light and showcase waterfront views. Comprehensive improvements to internal and external level changes ensured inclusive access throughout the venue, from street level through to the hotel’s waterfront areas.
Results
The collaborative approach delivered a exceptional new dining space featuring alfresco dining areas with unique fire-pits designed for year-round use in all weather conditions. The enhanced glazing significantly improved internal light levels and provided unobstructed waterfront views, whilst the accessibility improvements ensured the venue welcomes all visitors. The copper-framed pergola entrance creates an impressive first impression whilst the flexible outdoor spaces extend the venue’s operational capacity throughout the seasons.
