Projects: Soak, London

Soak, London

Project Overview

Client: Large multi-hotel operator
Location: Adjacent to Victoria station, London
Project Type: Restaurant rejuvenation and redesign
Scope: Complete transformation of underutilised hotel restaurant into dining and entertainment venue

Challenge/Brief

The client’s hotel restaurant was significantly underperforming despite its prime location next to Victoria station. The space had become dated and failed to capitalise on the constant stream of potential customers passing through one of London’s busiest transport hubs. The brief required creating a unique design concept that would capture this passing trade whilst offering dining, drinking and evening entertainment options that respected and complemented the existing Edwardian architecture.

Solution

The design approach focused on creating multiple revenue streams within a single cohesive space. A large central bar servery was positioned to immediately engage visitors entering through the main entrance, whilst the layout incorporated flexible areas for dining and evening entertainment. The design needed to balance the grandeur of the double-height Edwardian space with intimate dining areas that would encourage longer customer dwell times.

Implementation

The centrepiece installation featured a striking central bar servery positioned directly opposite the main entrance to maximise visual impact. Back-to-back curved booths upholstered in luxurious velvet created intimate dining pods that embraced guests in opulent comfort. All fixtures and fittings were specified to premium standards appropriate for a high-end London venue. Bespoke lighting installations were carefully designed to create warmth and intimacy within the imposing double-height space. A raised DJ booth was constructed at the rear of the bar area, maximising available trading floor space whilst providing an elevated platform overlooking the entertainment area.

Results

The transformation successfully converted an underperforming hotel restaurant into a vibrant destination venue that captures passing trade from Victoria station. The flexible layout enables multiple revenue streams throughout the day, from morning dining through to evening entertainment. The design successfully honours the Edwardian heritage whilst creating a contemporary hospitality experience that maximises the commercial potential of this prime London location.
