Found, Shoreditch

Project Overview

  • Client: Clerkenwell Ltd
  • Location: Shoreditch, London
  • Project Type: Subterranean cocktail bar design concept
  • Scale: Compact bar area with three adjoining rooms

Challenge/Brief

Clerkenwell Ltd, having successfully operated their Latin American themed cocktail bar Casita for several years, sought to develop a new bar concept in the previously unused basement space below. MGI was approached mid-project, after first fix elements had already begun, to provide a detailed design concept that would create a distinctive atmosphere for this underground venue.

Solution

MGI developed a concept for a deliberately hidden, exclusive cocktail bar without external signage, creating an establishment that would rely solely on word-of-mouth marketing—hence the aptly chosen name “Found.” The design focused on creating an intimate, atmospheric space that would offer patrons an alternative to the conventional bar experience in Shoreditch.

Implementation

  • Created a deliberately concealed entrance behind a heavy velvet curtain
  • Designed a compact yet functional bar area connecting three small rooms
  • Installed dark oak flooring throughout for warmth and sophistication
  • Featured a distinctive tin tile bar servery as a focal point
  • Selected metal-based furniture to complement the industrial-meets-cosy aesthetic
  • Developed a muted decoration scheme to enhance the intimate atmosphere
  • Implemented atmospheric lighting to create the right ambience for a hidden cocktail destination
