Chez Fred

Chez Fred

Westbourne

Fred Capel acquired the fish and chip restaurant from its previous owners in 1989. Re-christened “Chez Fred” it quickly became a popular destination for a wide variety of customers, with turnover increasing ten-fold since Fred took the reins.

In 2014, after 15 years of successful trade, Fred appointed MGI to develop a design that would bring Chez Fred into the 21st century whilst showing deference to its heritage as a traditional fish and chip shop.

Unlike many other refurbishment projects where the aim is to rejuvenate a failing business the specific issue with this project was its own success. It was vital that the proposed design did not isolate the existing customer base and that the project was delivered onsite quickly and efficiently to minimise disruption to trade.

The design was achieved through use of traditional Victorian encaustic floor tiles and metro wall tiles, complemented with a subtle colour palette, bentwood furniture and quality leather booth and banquette seating to achieve a feeling of understated quality which marks Chez Fred as a cut above other chip shops

Since its refurbishment Chez Fred has continued to loyally serve the residents of Westbourne as its premier fish & Chips destination and with a 50% increase on seated covers the site’s annual turnover continues to grow.
