This site, located in Wilmslow, a town in Cheshire, was in dire need of refurbishment following years of neglect. The brief to MGI was to create an inviting high end pub with an excellent external area that would appeal to the affluent residents of the town. Early on in the design process it was agreed with the client that the site receive a name change from `The Swan` to its current incarnation as Anthology.
This new name fed into the design vision for the site as MGI used the existing zones of the site ( snug, dining, drinking, exterior and so on) to create a series of stories through the pub so as to appeal to as many different people as possible. Literary cues were used throughout the fixtures and fittings with bespoke furniture and lighting being designed to tie the whole scheme together. Booths and mid-height banquette seating were introduced toward the rear of the pub in an area that had previously been underutilised by customers. These booths sat directly opposite a large pass allowing vision into the catering kitchen as the client wanted to create a feeling of theatre by allowing customers to see the chefs at work.
In order to allow seamless access into the beer garden new glazed bi-fold doors were introduced with the added benefit of allowing light to flood into the rear of the site which had previously been a dark and dingy area of the pub.
The Beer garden itself was rejuvenated through the introduction of more booth seating under a dedicated pergola structure, mix of paving and astroturf and the formation of a central feature fire pit which could also be utilised as a BBQ to serve customers during the warmer months. Following its refurbishment Anthology became one of the premier destinations in Wilmslow and cemented its position as a hub of the community.
