Project Overview

MGI delivered a complete restaurant fitout for Gino D’Acampo’s My Pasta Bar concept, transforming an empty retail unit on Fleet Street, London, into a vibrant takeaway restaurant. The project involved creating a new brand environment that would capture the essence of an authentic Italian marketplace whilst optimising operational efficiency for high-volume service.

Challenge/Brief

The client required a design that would bring the new My Pasta Bar brand concept to life, transforming a vacant retail space into a bustling takeaway restaurant. The key challenge was creating an authentic Italian marketplace atmosphere whilst ensuring the design supported rapid food service operations. The venue needed to achieve a 3-minute turnaround time for pasta meals whilst maintaining the vibrant, welcoming environment that would encourage both dine-in customers and takeaway orders.

Solution

MGI developed a design strategy that balanced authentic Italian aesthetics with operational efficiency. The approach focused on creating distinct zones within the space that would guide customer flow whilst immersing them in an Italian marketplace experience. The design incorporated traditional materials and contemporary functionality to support both the brand identity and the fast-casual dining model.

Implementation

The transformation utilised traditional Italian tiles and rustic woods to create an authentic foundation, complemented by standalone impulse buy units that enhanced both atmosphere and revenue opportunities. A carefully planned mix of colourful high and low seating created dynamic visual interest whilst accommodating different customer preferences. The open kitchen design was positioned to showcase the food preparation process whilst ensuring efficient workflow for the 3-minute service target.

Results

The completed venue successfully captures the vibrant, authentic Italian marketplace atmosphere whilst delivering exceptional operational performance. The design supports the target 3-minute pasta meal turnaround time, creating an efficient customer journey that maximises both satisfaction and throughput. The space now operates as a successful flagship for the My Pasta Bar concept, demonstrating how thoughtful design can enhance both brand identity and commercial performance in the competitive London restaurant market.
